After playing the role of Molly Carter for five seasons in HBO’s Insecure, Yvonne Orji recently inked a new deal with HBOMax as host of the new reality dating series Your Mom, My Dad. The network recently debuted the trailer, and the show is set to premiere on Jan. 13.
The eight-episode series involves a group of single parents whose college-aged children select to live in a house called “Second Chance Retreat,” hoping to find a compatible partner. While the parents are unaware of their children’s pranks, the young adults are reportedly living in a nearby home down the street, as they spy on their parent’s every move with the help of Orji and hidden cameras, Variety reported.
“No one else knows your parents better than you do, right? So, I may have a little surprise for you,” Orji said to the kids in the trailer, displaying the wall of TV screens they later used to spy on Second Chance Retreat.
“You gotta be more mysterious with the ladies,” one of the kids says to his father. “What does that even mean?” his father replies before the trailer cuts to a scene of the father asking, “Would it be too cliche if I tried to give you a kiss?”
“A little,” his date replies awkwardly.
While playing random pranks on their parents, the kids witnessed a vulnerable side of their parents they hadn’t seen before.
The structure for Your Mom, My Dad, was created by The Office exec producer Greg Daniels and his daughter Haley Daniels as their first unscripted television project. The duo executive produces alongside Sam Dean and David Eilenberg, Simon Thomas, and Bernie Schaeffer.
The reality series is Orji’s third project with HBO. In 2020, she released Momma I Made It, a stand-up comedy special in D.C., where the actress opened up about her Nigerian-American upbringing while returning to her homeland.
Last year, she transitioned her acting skills onto the big screen with the Hulu original movie Vacation Friends starring the comedienne, alongside Lil’ Rel Howery and wrestler John Cena.
