Neomama Keke Palmer, 29, blessed the Met Gala with her presence on Monday night — her first appearance at the fashion event since birthing her first child.
Event coordinators requested that guests dressed “in honor of Karl,” German designer Karl Lagerfeld, who died in 2019 of pancreatic cancer.
Mama Palmer understood the assignment, stunning the Met Gala as she flaunted a scintillating pastel tweed gown with a strapless bodice designed by fashion designer Sergio Hudson.

She went ’50s-’60s with her voluminous hairstyle. The True Jackson, VP actress first appeared at the Met Gala in 2021 but didn’t attend in 2022, most likely due to her pregnancy. In February, the “Bottoms Up” singer gave birth to her son and first child, Leodis “Leo” Andrelton Jackson, who she had with boyfriend Darius Jackson.
Hudson and Palmer told Vogue that different decades inspired Palmer’s look, from the ’50s and ’60s Josephine Baker vibes to Karl’s work with Chanel in the ’90s.
The Rags actress gave Hudson complete control of her Met Gala look.
“She definitely let me have my way, from hair to makeup to everything. It was really fun,” Hudson explained. “Of course, I’m a designer, so I had this elaborate thought that it was, okay, Josephine Baker in her heyday, which was late ’50s, early ’60s. Karl was there, too. So, we wanted to do an ode to old Hollywood and just had a lot of fun.”
Palmer added that she had no problem being someone’s muse and them using her to construct an idea in their head.
“I love to be a doll, as the kids say, honey,” she said. “So, take me, dress me up, make me over. I live for it.”
Palmer posted photos of her at the fashion event on Instagram, writing a message to Hudson in the caption.
“Your vision gives me life, @sergiohudson. It was magic being your doll at The Met tonight,” the caption read.
Access Hollywood mentioned that she didn’t bring baby Leo, to which Palmer replied that the event was too much for him, adding he was “at home waiting for Mama.”
She said that her entertainment career became easier after discovering that raising a baby was one of the hardest jobs on the planet.
