Known as an undefeated boxing champion, Floyd Mayweather, who retired from the sport in 2017, recently opened up about his potential memory loss, revealing in a video clip that several of his family members suffered from it and that it’s “possible” he has memory loss as well.
During a press conference for the recent Gervonta Davis V. Isaac Cruz fight, Mayweather reportedly surprised attendants by showing up and answering questions from journalists, SecondsOut reported.
In a video clip posted to YouTube by the boxing news outlet, the Grand Rapids-native
shared, “They were saying that Floyd Mayweather is losing his memory. I think I was in Mexico. There was some little fighter they was talking about. Who was he?”After being reminded that it was Jose Zepeda, Mayweather continued, “My thing is this, I’m proud of him for his victory. But, if you’ve done something spectacular when you sparred me, I’m going to remember you. Now I’m human, and one thing we can’t play with is memory loss.”
“My grandmother died from it,” the 44-year-old added. “My Uncle Roger died from it. My daddy’s going through it, so I’m only human. So can I have a little memory loss? It’s possible. But guess what? One thing I did do, I built a generation of wealth for my children and my family.”

“So if I am going through that, they’re going to make sure that I’m okay. And Muhammad Ali went through it so we go through those types of things, you know? I’ve been hit with some big shots throughout my career. Not [as] many as others, but it comes with the territory.”
Following Zepeda’s knockout victory in October, Mayweather met up with him but appeared confused when the Mexican-American boxer claimed to have been his sparring partner during his 2015 fight against Manny Pacquiao. In a clip by Fight Hub TV, Zepeda can be
heard telling him, “Yeah, I was your sparring when you fought Pacquiao, I don’t know if you remember me.”Mayweather joked at the time, “You didn’t beat me up did you?” before offering a handshake and his congratulations to the fighter.
