Comedian Wanda Sykes said an audience member at one of her shows almost died from laughter.
Sykes appeared as a guest on The Late Late Show with James Corden and was asked about the craziest moment she encountered during one of her stand-up shows.
The 58-year-old said it was recently, and the incident happened in Memphis, Tennessee.
“The show was going well, and they’re yelling at me from over this side of the stage,” the comedian recalled. “I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ They was like, ‘You need a paramedic.'”
Sykes instructed the venue crew to turn the house lights up while her security went over to where the chaos was coming from. She asked if a doctor was present, and a physician came to assist.
“This guy, apparently, he had a lot to drink…there’s always alcohol involved,” Sykes said. “And he was laughing so hard that he puked, he vomited and then started choking on his vomit.”
Actor and comedian Joel McHale, a guest seated next to Sykes, remarked, “Now that must have been a good joke.”
Corden responded, “That is arguably the best review. I made a man vomit, and he laughed so much, he choked on his own vomit.”
Laughing to death is possible. According to Thought Catalog, a man named Alex Mitchell died from laughing hard in 1975 amid watching an episode of The Goodies.Â
A Danish audiologist died in 1989 from laughing at a scene from a 1988 comedy movie called A Fish Called Wanda, where actor Michael Palin has french fries in his nose.
McHale shared that his craziest moment happened in Naples, FL. A woman in the audience was watching his set when she peed right where she was sitting. The pee scattered around her, and McHale told the woman, “I didn’t realize you were that drunk.”
The woman’s friends quietly left the venue while the woman stayed.
