Viola Davis Set To Release Memoir, ‘Finding Me’

Emmy-Award-winning actress Viola Davis takes time off the big screen and puts pen to paper with the upcoming release of her memoir labeled “Finding Me,” a tell-all story on the journey that has been her life.

According to the Associated Press, HarperOne Publishing announced that they would be releasing Davis’ “Finding Me” on April 19, 2022.

“Finding Me” will be released in partnership with Ebony Magazine Publishing.

In her book, Davis describes her upbringing from growing up in poverty and family violence in Rhode Island to becoming one of the world’s most acclaimed actors.

“I believe that our stories, and the courage to share them, is the most powerful empathetic tool we have,” she said in a statement. “This is my story … straight, no chaser.”

Judith Curr, HarperOne’s president and publisher, said, “Viola Davis is a powerful truth-teller — through her work on stage and screen, as well as in her life.”

“I’m looking forward to working with her on a book that powerfully reveals the risk and danger for a Black woman living in the fullness of her talents and gifts — and the reward and freedom that comes with it,” she added.

According to Essence, in her book Davis speaks on her commitment to her art form.

The talented actress wrote, “I’m an artist because there’s no separation from me and every human being that has passed through the world,” Davis writes in the book. “I have a great deal of compassion for other people, but mostly for myself.”
