Fresh from the high of sharing her pregnancy with fans and followers on Instagram, Love & Hop Hop: Miami alum Shay Johnson shared some alarming news regarding the return of an old health issue and a new condition.
The 38-year-old expectant mom revealed that the fibroid tumors she had removed– have come back. On Feb. 26, Shay posted a video with her brothers Joe and Emjay Johnson at her side detailing what she discovered during a routine ultrasound.

“PREGNANT WITH FIBROIDS” My #Fibroids are back 🤦🏽♀️. I was advised by my doctor because I’m pregnant there’s nothing I can do right now but monitor the fibroids. Any procedure to remove the fibroids, which my choice would be UFE, can possibly harm the baby and of course, I’m not taking that chance,” she wrote. “I was also advised they might go away on their own once I have the baby. The only thing I can do now is wait. THIS SUCKS😖I will keep you guys posted on this process. 🤰🎀 @joejohnsonspeaks @officialemjay Had to tell my family the fibroids are back.”
According to the Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI), 80% of Black women will develop uterine fibroids in their lifetime. Fibroids are defined as “ leiomyomata or myomas, are noncancerous tumors that develop within the muscle tissue of the uterus (also called the womb).”
The myomas cause problems, typically, during a women’s reproductive years and hospitalization is three times more likely for Black women.
The reality television star also discovered another health concern during the ultrasound.
On Monday, Shay posted a video encouraging Black women to advocate for themselves. The distraught mom recorded the video while she was still in front of the hospital. She was too devastated to leave.
Fighting back tears, Shay explained that because of her previous myomectomy, complications had arisen.
“PREGNANT WITH FIBROIDS” part 2 ..Just left doctor’s office and was advised I CAN NOT have a vaginal birth because I have #PREVIA … #PREVIA is when the placenta covers the opening of the cervix preventing the baby from pushing through causing a mandatory C-Section. I was really looking forward to having a vaginal birth but because of my previous surgery “MYOMECTOMY” I have to have a cesarean aka C-Section.”
She continued, “I’m upset, but I’ll get over it. Long as my baby is ok I’ll be ok 👍 #TeamMoms #Fibroids #Shay #ShayJohnson Contact @usafibroidcenters to see if your a Candidate for #UFE to remove your fibroids …tell them Shay sent u.., Don’t be like me know your options.”

She donned golden fabrics befitting of a royal mother for the cover of Kontrol Magazine.
“ITS A GIRL!! I’m going to be a mommy. So excited!!!”
We pray that she has a healthy pregnancy and delivery.
