Usher’s Nearly 30 Years Of Artistry And Philanthropy Honored With The Key To The City Of Las Vegas

This is one hot year for Grammy award-winner Usher (Usher Raymond Jr.). Following the news of his headlining the Super Bowl LVIII, the “There Goes My Baby” singer accepted the key to the city of Las Vegas on Oct. 17, making that day “Usher Raymond Day.”

Councilman Cedric Crear’s opening speech highlighted Usher’s impact as an artist and philanthropist, inspiring the youth to pursue their dream through his Usher’s New Look (UNL) Foundation.

Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman followed, presenting the eight-time Grammy award-winning artist with a one-of-a-kind bejeweled key.

Usher shared his gratitude for the honor, taking the opportunity to shine a light on Las Vegas’ impact during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We were in a pandemic. There was nothing going on in this country. There was nothing going on in the world. Of course, there were some things going on in Atlanta,” Usher said, earning laughter. “We really took a major hit. There was something that made us feel the belief…that we would get back to normal is waiting in Las Vegas. And that’s what it became to me.”

He continued, “This was the groundswell for the belief that we would get back to the norm that we know we needed.”

Joking around, Usher asked about the doors his key to the city had access to, and Mayor Goodman responded, “Slot machines.”

“Keys open doors, and bricks build buildings if you don’t throw them,” Usher said. “But those buildings and that opportunity, I’m just one of many, many bricks of this city. I just want to continue to be an amazing contribution to your amazing city. I do see opportunity here. And the belief that everything that’s in my mind and that I’ve dreamed of is coming to life as a result of this city.”

Usher took to Instagram to share his achievement with his followers.

The superstar will demonstrate the longevity of his career by blowing minds at the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show. We can’t wait!
