Grammy Award and NAACP Image Award-winning R&B veteran Usher recently responded to a potential Verzuz battle against Grammy Award-winning R&B crooner Chris Brown.
During an interview with E!’s Daily Pop show on July 20, Usher, whose full name is Usher Raymond IV, hinted at doing something similar to a Verzuz in the future. However, he said, there’s no official battle in the works.
“Everyone wants to see you possibly do a Verzuz,” the Daily Pop host initially asked the singer. “They talked about you doing it with Ne-yo [or] Trey Songz. Chris Brown said, ‘hey, it does make sense.’ Does it make sense to Usher?”
He then replied, informing viewers that an alleged flyer, claiming he’s doing a Verzuz, has been spreading false information.
“There was a flyer that was put together. It’s not official, no, we’re not doing that, but I can appreciate what I see,” Usher said. “Nah, there’s no Verzuz. I don’t think y’all ready for nothing like that. You might be ready for something like that on stage, maybe in the future. Stay tuned.”
In June, Chris touched on doing a possible Verzuz against Usher, amongst other suggestions, in an episode of the hit Revolt podcast Drink Champs
, hosted by Queens rapper Noreaga.“I would want to celebrate him and his life just as much as celebrating my stuff…I can’t act like he ain’t a pioneer, as well,” the Breezy artist told Noreaga on June 25.
Meanwhile, Usher has been busy performing at his extended Las Vegas residency, which kicked off on July 15.
“That show had so much passion, so much vivaciousness,” E!’s Daily Pop host said. “The vocals was amazing…I [loved] seeing all the pole dancing as well [as] you doing your skating. What was that like for you, setting up shop in Vegas?”
“For me, this gave me the opportunity to experiment and try things that I’ve always wanted to do,” the Atlanta native responded. “Skating is something that’s been very intimate for me, so I built an entire rink inside of the show. The intention was to immerse you in what it is that my experience in life and creativity has been.”
On July 1, the 43-year-old dropped his latest song, “Good Love,” featuring the Miami rap duo City Girls.
