Funeral services were held on Monday for Atlanta rapper Trouble, who was shot and killed over a week ago.
According to Fox 5, the musician was honored by family and friends at the House of Hope Atlanta in Decatur, saying their final farewell to the beloved artist.
The 34-year-old, born Mariel Orr, was reportedly shot in the chest on June 5 after 33-year-old Jamichael Jones forced his way inside the Lake St. James Apartment complex, Sis2Sis reported
.Jedidia Canty, a spokeswoman for the Rockdale County Sheriff, confirmed that Jones had a previous relationship with the woman living at the residence. However, she kicked him out a week before the rapper had visited the woman. She told deputies that she called the police but decided not to press charges since the shooter had left the property.
The suspect broke into the home at around 3:30 a.m. and assaulted the woman as she slept. Deputies said she had “visible injuries on her face consistent with being struck.” Moments later, Jones and Trouble had an altercation after witnessing the rapper asleep in bed next to the woman. Then, the ex-boyfriend reached for his firearm and fired a single shot at the rapper, who died at the scene.
Trouble’s label, Def Jam, posted a tribute on Sunday to celebrate the rapper, who also went by the nickname Skoob.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the children, loved ones, and fans of Trouble. A true voice for his city and an inspiration to the community he proudly represented. RIP Skoob.”
Jones called the woman following the shooting, prompting investigators to persuade the suspect to turn himself in. He later surrendered to Rockland County Deputies and was taken into custody on Tuesday. Jones was charged with home invasion, felony murder, and aggravated assault.
Jones was denied bail on Monday at Rockland County Jail. His next court hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
