UPDATE: Beloved Atlanta News Anchor, Jovita Moore, Passes Away From Cancer

Our hearts go out to her children!

Beloved Atlanta news anchor Jovita Moore has lost her fight with cancer.

WSB reported that Jovita passed away on Thursday night. She valiantly fought glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer with no cure, for seven months. She leaves behind her two children and a stepdaughter and her mom.

News of her death sparked an outpouring of love from peers and fans alike on social media.

Even Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms issued a statement on the news anchor’s passing.

A well-loved pillar in the Atlanta community, Jovita was originally from New York City. The Emmy-winning news personality made her way to the southern metropolis in 1998– after working in Memphis, Fayetteville and Fort Smith. Jovita became the primary anchor at WSB in 2012.

According to the publication, she also volunteered for numerous charities throughout Atlanta. Jovita also mentored students and served on several boards as a director.

Sister2Sister previously reported that Jovita was diagnosed with the deadly form of brain cancer. After her diagnosis, Jovita maintained a positive attitude. She was also extremely transparent with fans.

“I was really concerned about why all of a sudden I was forgetful, disoriented and just not feeling myself. Feeling like I was in a fog and really wanting to get out of that fog,” she told fans on air.

The talented newswoman also openly discussed her symptoms and the seriousness of her illness.

“It’s significant,” she addressed the audience. “It’s gonna be a lot. Two little tumors kind of near each other, and they got to go. We had to start then– having a conversation about what that was and what that meant.”

Funeral services have not been confirmed Jovita. Our prayers and condolences go out to her family.
