Fast & Furious actor Tyrese Gibson was ordered to pay $10,690 per month in child support to his estranged wife, Samantha Lee, on August 30.
In a video showing the proceedings, as reported by TMZ, a judge cast the order in Georgia for the ex-lover’s daughter Soraya on Tuesday. Along with the child support payments, the judge ordered Gibson to keep life insurance with his daughter as the beneficiary.
Upon hearing the judge’s decision, Gibson had an outburst in the courtroom when the judge told him the decision was made to “[level] the economic playing field.”
An opposing lawyer questioned Gibson’s comments about being in supposed financial ruin while bringing in big money.
Tyrese responded angrily, “I don’t do the CFO thing. Here’s a question to you, smart person …”
He was quickly cut off by the judge, who spoke to him directly and further explained his decision after scolding him, “You don’t ask questions! That’s not how this works!!”
He continued to threaten to hold the actor in contempt if he spoke out of turn again.
“I want you both to love your kid, and I want you both to tell your kid to love the other parent because that’s how we get successful human beings,” the judge expressed. “Nobody won here, and nobody lost. The kid lost because she doesn’t have her parents together. Minimize the effects of that loss. Minimize it in every way, shape and form you can.” He implored Gibson not to see paying child support as a punishment for Gibson in the lover’s spat, but rather that it was forcing him to “Put the money where it belongs.”
“You’re going to see the dividends it pays in your child. Put that money where it belongs – in the child,” the judge concluded. He advised Gibson not to believe money was his only responsibility either.
“FaceTime with your kids. There’s no amount of money that substitutes that because you can’t buy time. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. Spend every minute you can because you blink, and they’re 25.”
