Tyler Perry trended on Twitter after one of his characters from Sistas said that he liked his prostate tickled.
As reported by Rolling Out, the character made the remark while he was breaking up with his girlfriend.
One Twitter user stated the obvious when they questioned if Perry could have chosen a more appropriate vocabulary for the problematic dialogue. Another Twitter user asked if anyone even communicates in such a way when referencing homosexuals. Others thought the dialogue was funny or wondered if art was imitating life.
The characters are fighting when the unfortunate dialogue occurs. Calvin, who is either bisexual or gay, tells his girlfriend that she can’t deal with his feminine side.
“Let’s just end this,” says Calvin. “I’m just too much for you. Me, my two dads, me being in touch with my feminine side, my lace underwear, hell, even me liking my prostate tickled!”
Twitter was quick to respond to the breakup scene.
“This supposed to be all serious but he talking about “my prostate tickled” ??? My man couldn’t have worded this differently??? Tyler Perry needs to be stopped,” said the Twitter user.
Another said “Is there any gay dude on this planet that even talks like that? What the hell is “prostate tickled”. Lmao Tyler Perry man.”
The “prostate tickled” remark speaks for itself. Other dialogue implies that Calvin is gay because he had two fathers, which is a problem. After all, science determines sexuality. Perry’s dialogue reinforces negative stereotypes about gay people and homosexuality while simultaneously making people joke that his dialogue is biographical. The irony!
Perry has yet to respond to the backlash.
