Tyler Perry finally addressed his use of bad wigs in a recent episode of The Tyler Perry Show: Sistas After-Show Edition. The urban entertainment mogul has a history of using questionable hairpieces for his characters, but he is tired of his fans bringing it up.

For as much as Perry has broken records with his products, he has equally come under fire for certain patterns in the way actors are costumed in his films.

During the episode, Perry and the Sistas cast members read mean tweets, and he directly answered one of the tweeters who expressed disdain for the wig choices on the series.

“Stop asking me about some damn hair,” he added with a laugh. “Go talk to somebody that’s got a hot curler. Like I’m walking around with a damn hot curler,” Perry said.

Surprisingly, Perry claimed that he pays hairdressers $65 per hour to do the hairstyles that the actors don. That figure is quite impressive, considering what many fans have observed over the years.

One of Perry’s earliest films, Diary of Mad Black Woman, brought us, Shemar Moore, in a cornrow wig that reminded us of how we look when it is past time to take our braids down.

In A Fall From Grace, Perry gave us this toupee-beard combo meal that gave us “deacon with a mild texturizer for easier combing” teas.

Let’s not forget Boris Kodjoe’s wig in Madea’s Family Reunion. That’s when we realized that part of Boris’s attractiveness is his baldness.

Lastly, a wig on Sistas was so perplexing that it might have been better to ask the actress if she would mind cutting her hair for the role.

Part of what makes Perry so successful is his willingness to take risks in his writing. He maintains that his hairdressers do a great job. At $65 per hour, they are indeed performing a job.

He has definitely made history; for more than just his movies.
