Millennial actor Tyler James Williams recently snagged his first Golden Globe Award for his role in the hit ABC mockumentary Abbott Elementary.
Tyler was all smiles when he accepted his award for “Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical-Comedy or Drama Television Series,” at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 10. He won the award for his portrayal of Gregory Eddie, a First Grade Teacher, on Abbott Elementary.
“I want to start off by thanking first my cast and crew. It’s an honor to work with you every day. Quinta Brunson, yeah,” he shared in a thoughtful speech. “All of my producers, my agents…I truly appreciate this. I pray that this is a win for Gregory Eddie, and for his story and for stories like his. That we may understand that his story is just as important as all of the other stories that have to be told out here. Thank you so much for this.”

Years before landing a role on the mockumentary, Tyler rose to prominence via the ‘00s UPN-turned-CW show, Everybody Hates Chris. His memorable character is loved by millennials and gen z, who grew up—and still do—watching it.

“To everyone who sent me an overwhelming amount of love in last 12 hours or so, thank you [white heart emoji]. Last night was one for the books,” he shared in an Instagram post on Jan. 11.

On Jan. 5, he posted a photo of himself showing off his toned body in Men’s Health Mag.

“This one is for the Crohns Patients, the ‘hard gainers,’ the skinny kids, and those thriving while fighting invisible illnesses,” Tyler wrote. “May we all continue to learn how to listen our bodies and treat them better. Thank you to @menshealthmag for the feature and chronicling my journey thus far.”
