Twitter users have been reacting to footage of Maryland rapper Goonew’s corpse propped upright at a recent nightclub funeral.
The video footage has been circulating on the social media platform since Apr. 3, following Goonew’s going-away celebration titled the “The Final Show” at Bliss nightclub in Washington D.C. In the footage, the deceased rapper was seen standing in an upright position on stage for event attendees to pay their last respects. The embalmed body donned a crown, an Amiri designer shirt, and iced out jewelry like he did while he was alive.
“Popular rapper Goonew was shot and killed in Prince George’s County. His family hosted a funeral in a club where his body was propped up like a mannequin to join the celebration,” user @Zucoki initially shared with a video clip attached.

Although many felt the club-style viewing was uncalled for, some actually defended the Maryland rapper’s family’s decision to prop him on stage the way they did.
“If Goonew family okay with having his body out there like that I don’t feel like it’s anybody who isn’t his family’s place to speak ill of how they remember him,” said user @GED_Jacee.

The 24-year-old was gunned down blocks away from his home on Mar. 18, the Prince George County police department confirmed. Shortly after he was found in a parking lot on the 2400 block of Walters Lane, he was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In an interview with Fox 5 News, his family was unapologetic about putting his body on display at Bliss because he allegedly didn’t want people to be sad, they said.
“For all the negatives, people probably don’t even know nothing about us,” Goonew’s mother, Patrice Morrow, told the news outlet. “They have no idea. People [are] just saying what they want to say and that’s fine. That’s perfectly fine. I’m pleased with how I sent my son away. I wish people would just let me grieve in peace.”
“We’re not trying to clear anything up,” his sister, Ariana Morrow, chimed in and said. “We don’t care about anybody and what y’all have to say…We don’t care.”
Bliss nightclub, an extremely popular venue among celebrities and D.C. residents, also released a statement via Instagram about the rapper’s peculiar funeral.
“Our deepest condolences to Goonew’s family, friends, and fans,” they wrote on Apr. 4. “Bliss was contacted by a local funeral home to rent out our venue for Goonew’s home-going celebration. Bliss was never made aware of what would transpire. We sincerely apologize to all those who may be upset or offended. Please keep Goonew’s family and friends in your prayers at this difficult time. Respectfully, Bliss Management.”
