Canadian crooner Tory Lanez has been hit with a third felony charge in the ongoing Megan Thee Stallion shooting case.
According to Rolling Stone, Tory Lanez has been hit with an additional felony charge in his trial for allegedly shooting “Thot Sh*t” rapper Megan Thee Stallion. Prosecutors reportedly added the new charge of discharging a firearm with gross negligence on Dec. 5, amid ongoing jury selection in the case.
If found guilty of the charge, Tory could serve six years in prison as it qualifies as a deplorable crime. If convicted on all accounts, he could face a maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months behind bars.
The musician is accused of opening fire on Megan’s feet with a semiautomatic 9mm handgun, shouting, “Dance, b**ch!” in 2020. As Sis2Sis previously reported, the two were embroiled in a heated argument while traveling in a Cadillac Escalade with two others–the female rapper’s former bestie Kelsey Harris and the “It doesn’t matter” musician’s bodyguard.
Tory later pleaded not guilty to one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. He additionally faces a gun allegation, in which he was accused of “personally inflicted great bodily injury” on Megan.
After being placed on house arrest in October, The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that he was taken off of it in December.
“Mr. Peterson’s house arrest was lifted over the objections of our office,” the DA’s office announced in a statement at the time.
Judge David Herriford said he allowed the entertainer’s home monitor to be removed “mainly for the trial preparation aspect.”
In 2021, a disgruntled Megan took to her Twitter account to express her frustration over people allegedly being insensitive about the shooting.
“Y’all so believe black women and protect black women online BUT WHEN I LITERALLY SAY I GOT SHOT ITS CONFUSING,” she tweeted that day.
