Tisha Campbell Gets Real About Moving On After Marriage With Duane Martin

Tisha Campbell, Martin alum, sat down with the Ebro in The Morning on July 27 to promote her new Netflix show Uncoupled. Campbell talked about the comparisons to ending her marriage with Duane Martin two years ago. She’s been public about moving on and “being uncoupled [after] coming from being in a long-term relationship of 26 years.”

“One of the things that goes through your mind is who am I outside of this person? I took marriage, my wifely duties…and being a mother, that was at the forefront of everything. Career came second. I had to find myself,” she said.

Campbell described the “beautiful devastation” of self-discovery as an individual without labels. She admitted that she felt bad for a long time, but “

all of a sudden, there’s an awakening. There’s an, ‘I can do this. I can navigate. It was acceptance of myself, I’m stronger than I really knew, and it was getting rid of any baggage, setting boundaries for myself.”

The talented entertainer laureled religion, faith, and family as being the things that brought her to the point of acceptance. Being reminded that she wasn’t alone after her separation, even when she lost friends, was enough to get her through her stages of grief.

“God kept giving me something. He kept paving the way for me and kept gifting me all these wonderful miracles,” She reflected. “I never understood what faith was until I was at absolute zero. I thought faith was getting on your knees, praying and getting up and doing the work until I could not do anything and my hands were tied behind my back or up in the air, and there was nothing I could do. That’s when I understood. Things were going to work out because He’s [God is] going to work it out.”

“Now I’m in such a joyful, spiritual place in my life. I’m feeling really good about where I am and where I’m taking my family. I’m learning about who I am and am super excited about that, so that’s where I am right now. It’s about me and my kids, and that’s it right now.”

And enjoying the life she is, not only did Campbell take her last name back, but she’s back to living her best life and embracing her newfound freedom.

“Nothing else to say.🕊🕊🕊🕊My dad just saw this post and said, “ My baby girl is back. Best birthday gift EVER.” Awww, dad! BTW Hey #instagram Can you to help me out and change my name pleaseeeee 🙏🏼?”

One pleasure of single life that she’s missed is sex toys.

“Hell yeah, toys! Oh, I keeps me a good toy buzzing around every now and then. You know what I’m damn talking about,” she said in a PageSix interview. “Toys, toys, toys.”
