When it comes to putting white men who enter Black folks’ business in their place, Tiffany Cross has time. The MSNBC anchor addressed Bill Maher after commenting on the controversy surrounding the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical, “In The Heights,” and its criticism for colorism.

Maher is known for many things, namely his HBO show Real Time With Bill Maher and briefly dating

Karrine Steffans. But, for today, he is another white man who opined on a fight in which he has no dog, and Cross was not here for it.

“You are the guy who made the Founding Fathers Black and Hispanic,” said Maher. “I don’t think you have to apologize to Twitter. I mean, he is a Latino making a Latino movie with a Latino cast. Not good enough. Nothing is ever good enough for these people. They are like children.”

That didn’t sit too well with Cross, and she set aside some time on her show, The Cross Connection, to address the 65-year-old comedian.

 

“Bill Maher, you do not get to tell people of color what they should or should not be offended by. Stay in your lane, slim,” Cross said.

Lin-Manuel Miranda came under fire after the lead cast members in the musical were all white or fair-skinned Latinos. He issued a statement about the ensuing accusations of colorism, and Tiffany Cross acknowledged his commitment to doing better before reading Maher for dust.

“Maybe instead of trying to invoke sympathy for Sharon Osbourne or making sure Tomi Lahren has a space to spout her BS, you should have more diverse panels of people who can explain colorism to you and systemic racism…,” Cross continued.

The upshot is that Cross flawlessly addressed Maher’s tendency to do what white people commonly do; stick their nose in Black people’s business instead of addressing their own perpetuation of white supremacy.

Maher should understand white supremacy all too well, considering his mediocre brand of white liberalism is soon to air its 19th season.
