‘This Is The End For Me’: Terrence Howard Says He’s Retiring After Nearly 30 Years In The Biz

The Best Man: The Final Chapters looks like the last project actor Terrence Howard will be in. In his interview with Entertainment Tonight, Howard announced that he’s retiring and ready to give the next generation a chance to thrive as Hollywood actors.

“This is the end for me. This is the end for me. I don’t know if it’s the end for the rest of them,” he said, referring to his fellow castmates in The Best Man

series. “I retired two years ago, for the most part. I was done. … I asked Sidney Poitier 10 years ago does he want to do any more, and he said, ‘Why would I spend my last 10 years doing an impersonation of myself?’ And that’s what I’ve gotten to.”

The 53-year-old said something similar in 2019, right before his hit FOX series Empire ended. He told the outlet that he was “running away as quickly as possible.” However, that wasn’t the case because after Empire ended, Howard was seen in The System and the last addition to The Best Man series. But the longtime actor is supposedly serious.

“I’ve gotten to the point where now I’ve given the very best that I have as an actor,” he continued. “Now I’m enjoying watching other new talent come around, and I don’t want to do an impersonation of myself.”

Howard claimed he was ready to step back and allow the future young Hollywood stars to take the spotlight.

“Yes, there’s some better actors out there that can do things that I was never able to do,” Howard said. “So, I want to applaud them, I want to be excited about what they do.”

The 2006 Oscar nominee for Best Actor is known for his many roles, like Djay in Hustle & Flow. His acting debut came in 1992 when he played Jackie Jackson in The Jacksons: An American Dream. Many people today know and love him for his iconic role as Lucious Lyon on Empire, which ended in 2020.

Howard reprised his role as Quentin in the 2022 installment of The Best Man series, The Best Man: The Final Chapters, which the premiere was held at the Hollywood Athletic Club in Los Angeles.

The Best Man: The Final Chapters hits Peacock on Dec. 22.
