Meet Ms. Theresie Nyirakajumba, a 123-year-old virgin in Kenya who adamantly believes she will find a man to love her regardless of her age.
Afrimax English shared Theresie’s remarkable story of how she went 123 years without ever feeling the touch or love of a man.
“Yes, of course, I’m a virgin,” Theresie stated. “I would think of it during my era but wouldn’t take myself to a husband.”
Theresie’s culture during her childhood forbade her and other girls from associating with boys. For young Theresie, following the rules came easy. She had no interest in getting married or being in love with a man.
Her parents and friends attempted to change her mind, but Theresie preferred singleness.
“I didn’t want to engage with men,” Theresie shared. “…had a strong fear for men, and that prevented me from any potential relationship throughout my youth. I would see men coming to my hometown, but I never developed love for someone.”
Usually, men would propose to the prospective wives’ parents. Once the parents approve the marriage, they inform their daughters of their nuptials.
“In our time, we would spend a long time weaving and doing other feminine works at home,” the 123-year-old explained. “We had to sit inside our parents’ houses and help our mothers to do some domestic work while learning from them about how to treat a man well.”
Despite Theresie having all of the knowledge of a housewife, including how to take care of the household and the man, she declined all her marriage proposals.
“Some of my friends were proposed to by men, and they were married,” she said. “But for me, I never felt ready for that. That’s why I chose to wait until I was ready for it.”
Theresie’s desire to marry came culturally late because of her age.
“There was a time I started to develop some feelings for men,” Theresie shared. “I wished to have someone to spend my time with. By the time I developed such feelings, I was no longer a young woman who attracts men. I was old, and that played a role to restrict men from approaching me.”
Theresie refuses to let her age discourage her from finding a man and filling the void in her heart.
“Of course, if I can find someone who is interested in me, I would not hesitate because there is no woman who dislikes a caring man to comfort and care about her,” the 123-year-old stated.
She continued, “If a man shows up, I would be ready to entertain the options. I know that my age is a big hindrance in my search for a man, but I have refused to give up until I find a good man who is willing to spend his time with me.”
