Actress and talk show host Whoopi Goldberg addressed an audience member (some may say “heckler”) on The View who called her an “Old Broad” during Wednesday’s taping.

The moment occurred after The View’s hosts walked in and took their seats. Goldberg invited the audience to take a seat amid their applause. When the applauding died down, an audience member was heard shouting the EGOT winner’s name, to which Goldberg responded with “Alright.”

In the middle of co-host Sunny Hostin saying, “It’s a happy Wednesday crowd,” the same woman could be heard saying, “You old broad.”

Goldberg agreed and started the show only to stop and acknowledge what she was called.

“Did you just call me an ‘Old Broad’?” She asked.

Goldberg handled it by taking it as a compliment, saying it’s better than the alternatives.

“It’s Wednesday, and I am an old broad and happy about it,” Goldberg said.

Hostin asked about the alternative, and Goldberg replied, “The alternative is not attractive to any of us. We all want to be old broads and old dudes, you know?”

There were mixed reactions to the situation; some said the woman wasn’t heckling and said it was a compliment and others commended Goldberg for how she handled the unexpected moment.

“The audience member wasn’t heckling, she didn’t mean any offense as she is an ‘old broad’ herself,” one person commented.

“I don’t think she was calling her a old broad she was referring to her new book ‘Two Old Broads,’” another user commented. “I think she was yelling it as a term of endearment because Whoopi reacted in [a] playful way. The media always want to dissect something.”
