‘The Real’ Gets Cancelled After Eight Seasons

After eight seasons of real talk, it was announced Friday that The Real daytime talk show had been canceled. Variety disclosed that insiders said Warner Bros. had to end the show because Fox refused to pick it up for another season.

The show began in 2013 and aired on Fox-owned stations. It was significant for being the only talk show with all women of color hosts. Actress Tamera Mowry-Housely, stylist Jeannie Mai Jenkins, actress Adrienne Houghton, comedian Loni Love, and R&B singer Tamar Braxton were the original hosts. But in 2016, Braxton left the show to pursue and focus on a solo career, and actress Amanda Seales replaced her in 2020, which was the same year she exited due to her feeling that the show restrained her from discussing events she wanted to discuss. Mowry-Housely left the show the same year. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Garcelle Beauvais joined the cast not too long after.

Love made an Instagram post about the canceled show, thanking its viewers.

“In the end, The Real

cast & crew did everything we could to scale the show down,” the post read. “We shot 7-8 shows in 3 days, no audience, made a conference room into a studio, but in my opinion, COVID costs killed this show..it’s been a great ride and thank you to the studio for allowing 8 seasons of show that was Emmy winning and historic. Most importantly, thank you to the viewers for riding with us .. this is not goodbye, but see you all soon!”

Produced by Telepictures and distributed by Warner Brothers, The Real was one of the longest-running daytime talk shows. It scored three Daytime Emmy awards two NAACP Image Awards. The beginning three seasons were pre-taped before season four was altered to broadcasting live to get more interaction from fans.

The eighth season will be the last. The airdate has not been confirmed.
