Astroworld victim Ezra Blount’s family and their lawyer, Bob Hillard, are calling out Houston rapper Travis Scott for spending $5.5 million on a Bugatti Veyron Chiron Super Sport, telling TMZ that if the rapper had used half of the Bugatti money to pay for safety measures at the festival, then 9-year-old Blount would be alive.

Hillard went further and said that while the rapper has the right to do as he pleases with his money, buying the Bugatti was a bit “excessive” and that all of Scott’s actions should be oppugned due to the Astroworld tragic accident. The lawyer also clapped

at Scott’s team for maintaining Scott’s cool, celebrity-like appearance with the expensive car in spite of the Astroworld lawsuits.

Following the deadly crowd surge, Scott and others involved in the festival, including Drake, were hit with multiple lawsuits. State District Judge Kristen Hawkins is overseeing nearly 500 lawsuits filed against the rapper, according to Billboard.

A representative for Scott responded to the Blount family’s lawyer’s claims.

“This latest attempt to exploit Astroworld victims and gaslight the media and the public is a new low,” the rep said. “The car referenced was purchased way back in 2020 (well before the tragic events at Astroworld), and covered widely by the media — including TMZ — at that time. Misrepresenting a two-year-old car purchase to make an unprovoked and unjustified attack on Travis Scott is nothing more than another desperate publicity stunt to try to falsely blame Travis and intentionally manipulate public opinion, which won’t work.”

Blount attended the Astroworld Festival with his father, Treston, who had Blount on his shoulders before passing out, causing the 9-year-old to fall off his shoulders and into the crowd. Blount obtained injuries from being crushed by the crowd. He was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital, went into a medically induced coma with brain trauma and died on Nov. 14.
