Unrealistic beauty standards can put undue pressure on young girls and their self-esteem. Perhaps no one knows that better than Teyana Taylor, who burst onto the scene in a now-famous episode of “My Super Sweet 16.” Taylor was only a teenager when she became a dancer and musician, signed a record deal with Pharrell and was placed in the public eye.
The R&B singer recently sat down with Pop Sugar, where she discussed confidence, beauty, and the things she’s learned in her nearly two decades in the industry. Taylor’s style is one thing that’s certainly evolved over time, with her once edgy and tomboy-ish look now being switched to daring and sexy fits that flaunt her iconic abs.

Taylor is also a family woman now. After dating NBA star Iman Shumpert for two years, the two tied the knot in 2016 and have only grown closer since. “We can be at dinner, or in a quiet room, and you just hear him singing a whole bunch of Teyana Taylor songs!” the “Gonna Love Me” singer told GQ. “Songs that’s not even out yet. He sings all of them in falsetto.”
Since having Iman Tayla Shumpert Jr., also known as Junie in 2015, the couple has also welcomed another daughter, Rue Rose, last year. On what she wants to teach her daughters, Taylor said that she wants them to be confident in themselves no matter what.

I look at them and say, ‘You’re beautiful. You’re smart. You’re amazing. God loves you,” Taylor told Pop Sugar. “I instill that within both of them so they know that they’re beautiful with or without makeup, because at the end of the day, makeup is still fun.”
Speaking more on having a healthy relationship with makeup, she concluded, “I like playing in makeup and putting it on if I’m going out occasionally, but I let my daughters know that makeup can’t ever define you; it’s to dramatize or enhance the beauty that’s already there.”
It looks like the girls are in good hands.
