Telma Hopkins and Bryton James are reuniting on The Young & the Restless (Y&R). The Family Matters stars played mother and son for nine seasons on the sitcom back in the 1990s.

James currently stars on Y&R as Devon Hamilton. The actor joined the cast in 2004. Hopkins is a veteran singer and actress who has starred in classic sitcoms like Gimme a Break and Half & Half. She has also starred in Trancers I, II and III and performed with the pop group “Tony Orlando and Dawn.”

Hopkins will play a private detective with information about Hamilton’s ex-girlfriend, Amanda Sinclair (played by Mishael Morgan). Hopkins will debut on Y&R on June 1. James told

Entertainment Weekly that acting with Hopkins made him feel back at home again.

“Acting felt effortless and comfortable when we stepped on the stage together,” said James. “When the scene started we had to act like we didn’t know each other, but it has reminded me and made me feel really grateful about how long I have been able to do this because Telma is one of the reasons that I have enjoyed it for 30 years. To step on my first stage with her and have Telma be the one to make me feel so comfortable and at home back then, it is very special.”

James posted about his reunion with Hamilton on Instagram on March 24.

“31 years ago, she held me my first day on set.. And now, I have the honor of sharing the stage once again with the incomparable @telma_hopkins !!!! DON’T MISS #YRstarting 6/1 👀👀#familymattersThank you @entertainmentweekly for the love!”

Hopkins’ most recent roles were The Christmas Hotel and the Netflix show Dead to Me. The actress said that she also felt at home doing scenes with James.
