A meteorologist in Louisville, Kentucky, Tawana Andrew, got a surprise proposal from longtime boyfriend Rusty Steele, whom she met three years ago on Hinge.
Now, in 2021, a man showing up at your job would be cause for alarm. But, this time, it resulted in an engagement and a diamond ring, so we’ll allow it.
Andrew and Steele have been dating for three years.
It began when WAVE 3’s “Pic Of The Day” was a marvelous teardrop-shaped ring that was not an impulse purchase at a local beauty supply store.
The picture came with a quote that one of Andrew’s colleagues read aloud.
“It’s time for my princess to become my queen.”
The co-anchors all feigned befuddlement, and Andrew stood there and seemed perplexed as well.
That’s when it happened.
Steele entered from the wings and almost immediately got down on one knee in the midst of Andrew crying.
“No way! No way! No way! No way!” she exclaimed.
Yes, way.
“Tawana, the past few years have been the happiest of my life. Whether it’s skydiving or watching the entire Star Trek series,” Steele began.
“I want to love one day at a time for the rest of my life,” he said before revealing the ring and issuing the proposal.
“How am I supposed to do weather after this?” Andrew asked. Her co-workers, who were in on the surprise, said they already had that part covered and had a fill-in lined up.
Andrew announced the news to those who may not have caught the live broadcast on her Facebook page.
As sweet as this is, it’s also rather miraculous.
Andrew and Steele met on the dating app Hinge three years ago. Dating apps are notoriously horrid, and the fact that two people managed not to get trapped in a game of text tag and are headed down the aisle is nothing short of a miracle.
As dating apps go, Hinge ranks at the top of most lists.
Hopefully, we can score an invitation to the wedding.
Anyway, Andrew said, “Yes.”
We wish the couple many happy years together.
