YouTuber Tasha K is struggling to accept the judge’s verdict after losing Cardi B’s defamation lawsuit. Her attorneys are now making the moves to appeal and get the ruling reversed.
According to Billboard, the YouTuber’s lawyers argued that the judge withheld crucial evidence demonstrating the rapper’s character, obscuring the jury from seeing Cardi B’s true nature. So far, it isn’t clear what specific pieces of evidence were allegedly excluded.
“The jury heard a very lopsided presentation of evidence and, because they did not get to learn who the plaintiff truly is, the jury returned a general verdict for the plaintiff, against both defendants,” Tasha K’s attorneys said in the May 27 appeal filing.
At the time, the judge did rule that the withheld evidence could be detrimental to Cardi, in which Tasha K’s attorneys said that information regarding the rapper’s “character” should’ve been fair game since the case did center around the probable harm to Cardi B’s reputation.
The lawsuit was initially filed by the rapper in 2019 against Tasha K after the Youtuber released videos in which Cardi B called a “malicious campaign” to hurt her reputation. In the videos, Tasha K is heard alleging that Cardi B performed sexual acts “with beer bottles on f**king stripper stages.” In other videos, she claimed the “Money” rapper got herpes and was a prostitute.
After their January trial, Tasha K was held liable for defamation, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress, resulting in her owing $2.3 million in damages and $1.3 million in legal fees to the rapper. Judge Ray also issued an injunction forcing
the YouTuber to retract the videos from the internet and never repost. The YouTuber put her foot down and told fans that she wouldn’t pay Cardi B a dime.If you've been living under a rock, you might have missed the buzz surrounding rapper… Read More
