Tami Roman is giving her husband, Reggie Youngblood, of three years the chance to father a child without her.
Roman appeared on The Real and candidly discussed motherhood and marriage with the show’s co-hosts – Adrienne Bailon and Garcelle Beauvais. The former Basketball Wives cast member shared that she didn’t see having a child due to her career, so she gave Youngblood permission to have a child without her. In essence, the 51-year-old reality television star was willing to allow her husband to have a “break” baby.
“I feel like I’m at a point where my career is starting to do and reward me for all of the time and my efforts that I’ve been in this business, and a baby for me right now would just be the thing to do,” she said. “So what I offered him was an opportunity for us to take a break for a year or two and let him go find someone to have a child with. And then when he has his baby, we could get back together.”
Roman explained that she wanted Youngblood to experience fatherhood, but not at the expense of her body.
“It’s just I don’t want to have it,” she continued. “I don’t want to get my eggs, and it’s really about him being able to have his legacy here because he’s an only child. And he does not have any children, so it’s really more for him than it is for me.”
There’s a 17-year age difference between Roman and Youngblood, who’s 34, and the former Real World star has tried three times, unsuccessfully, to have babies with her husband.
She also explained that she would give Youngblood the opportunity for him and the potential mom to co-parent, and she would be a stepmom to the child. He wasn’t trying to hear that.
“I fell in love with you,” she said, quoting her husband. “You’re the woman I am gonna spend the rest of my life with. If God put me here, and I’m not supposed to have children, then that’s what it is.”
“I felt like I was being selfish. Our relationship has a selfish relationship to it because I really want him to have children. I just can’t be the one to do that.”
