Singer Syleena Johnson said that R. Kelly should be in an insane asylum instead of jail. She commented on the podcast Cocktails With Queens after R. Kelly was found guilty of sex trafficking on Sept. 27.
The show’s host, Claudia Jordan, said that Kelly was allegedly trying to trade his knowledge of a pedophile ring for a lighter sentence.
Johnson previously worked with Kelly and said that he was mentally ill and has been misjudged. The singer also noted that Kelly needed to be in an insane asylum. She added that she thought he needed to receive constant therapy and medication.
“I’m not gonna cry. I think he has really, um, been misjudged here. I don’t think he needs to be in jail. I think he needs to be in an insane asylum,” she said.
“No, no, no, no, no. Don’t get it twisted, I think he needs to be in a straight jacket. I think some of the behavior that has been going down has been erratic and I think that a lot of Black men in jail have been misjudged. Like, a lot of them. I had a friend that went to jail, long time ago, he said his roommate was so damn crazy. He said that went on a lot in jail.”
“Because what they do, is they throw Black men in jail. They just throw everybody in jail. If you’re crazy…everybody go to jail. But this dude needs real help. He needs to be in an insane asylum. Insane asylum. Real talk. Meds, drugs to the point where like, constant therapy.”
She went on to say that it’s clear Kelly suffers from mental health issues, especially since he believed that he could be famous while also being part of a pedophile ring and think he didn’t do anything wrong.
Jordan, Johnson, Vivica A. Fox and LisaRyae were all disgusted that Kelly allegedly had information on other pedophiles and is only now offering to provide the authorities with the information in an attempt to save himself. The ladies added that he was a snitch, and snitches get stitches. LisaRaye is a friend of Kelly’s and said that she would pray for him.
“I’ll pray for him. ‘Cause he’s gonna need it.”
Kelly is currently facing life in prison and is in jail awaiting his sentencing, which is scheduled for next May.
