SWV’s Coko Embraces Her Youngest Son After He Shared He Was Gay

SWV’s Coko recently took to social media and expressed her acceptance of her youngest son, Jaylon Clemons, after he recently came out as gay.

After being asked during a Q&A if it was difficult to accept her son being Gay, Coko stated that it was not.

She said that she was not surprised when he came out and that regardless that’s, “my baby.”

“It was not hard to accept my son’s sexuality at all,” she said in the clip.

“I’m his mother, so I mean, I already knew what it was, and I was just waiting for him to figure out what it was. And when he came to me and told me, I was like ‘You finally figured it out.’”

“But I love my son. He came out of my cooch. Why in the world would I not be okay with his sexuality? It is what it is,” she continued. “I’m not going to beat him. I’m not going to throw him on the altar. I pray for my kids regardless. I want them to be the best that they can be.”

She added, “So because my youngest son is gay, I don’t dislike him for that? No, that’s my baby. I carried him for eight months, and he’s special because I was only in labor for 30 mins. He’s special. I’m not going to dislike him or his sexuality. I pray for him just like I pray for my other son.”

Jaylon is Coko’s son with drummer and producer Mike “Big Mike” Clemons.

According to Essence, Coko and Jaylon seem to have a very close, loving relationship.

The two are known for taking the mic together and singing classic songs, both on social media and a recent debut of the two on Verzuz when they performed a duet on the song, “Sunshine.”
Coko said, “Some people say I failed as a mother. Well, I say I passed with flying colors as a mother because you’re graduating high school and then off to college to become a DENTIST!!!! So, I did something right! I love you, Jay Jay. And there’s nothing nobody can do about it!!! Mommy won’t leave you for nobody or nothing!! Your future looks super bright!!! Let’s go get it, Dr. Jayye!!”
