“Milkshake” singer Kelis’ husband Mike Mora shared his current health status with followers on Instagram. The 36-year-old photographer and real estate mogul revealed his ongoing battle with stomach cancer in a poignant post. 

One year ago, Mora was diagnosed with stage four gastric adenocarcinoma. The disease had metastasized to the lymph nodes in his back and he required treatment. The loving husband reflected on his year-long journey on social media.

On September 29, Mora wrote, “This picture was taken as I was being transferred to the oncology section of UCLA Santa Monica from nearby Ronald Reagan hospital. This gentleman, Latin brotha, saw how weak I was.”

 “He looked back at me before leaving my room and said ‘I’ve seen people make it out of the craziest situations, be strong brotha, you got this’. I’ll never forget his face….They said 18 months. It’s been exactly 12.”

He added, “Here we go.. Scared as F¥#% … The story will continue..Love you @kelis.”

 

Mora, who’s Colombian-American, also acknowledged how afraid he was  After being given an 18-month prognosis to live, he wanted to share his cancer journey to encourage others. 

“I am posting this…after so much thought. Many hours thinking of what the right thing to do is. Not because of a selfish reason…not because I want people to feel bad or sorry for me and my family. I am posting this because life is full of the most unexpected situations. I never thought this could happen to me.”

 “At just 36, with 3 kiddos, and a wife that loves me. I want to be able to help those that might be experiencing something like this- a life-altering disease full of questions and doubt- maybe, hopefully, “ Mora continued. “By showing that it’s possible to make it through. You always see people post about how life is too short. How you should reach out to those you love no matter where life has taken you. It is the truth. Don’t take your time here, your time with friends, family, for granted. Shit can be over just like that! Kelis hasn’t spoken publicly about her husband’s cancer diagnosis. The two married in  2014 and have two children together.  She had their daughter Galilee in 2020. 

She shared the news on Instagram in September of last year. 

“Hey, so I’ve been kind of MIA, very MIA, but for a really good reason cause I just had my baby!” 

Kelis added that her labor was “intense.”

“I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and I’m generally a really private person, with my personal life, but I wanted to kind of bring my fam in, bring you guys in, to sort of talk about all of these women’s things we go through that no one really tells us about,” she continued saying.

“I had a girl by the way, so I’m very excited about that, it’s my first girl.”

 

The 41-year-old songstress turned chef was married to rapper Nas from 2005-2010. They share a 12-year-old son, Knight.
