New Jack Swing legend Al B. Sure! had a substantial music career in the ’80s and ’90s, with more than three million records sold and several hits reaching Billboard’s Top 100 Charts. And now, the 53-year-old is currently hospitalized for unknown reasons.
The Boston native, born Albert Joseph Brown III, took to Instagram on Wednesday and posted a photo of him at a Mount Vernon, New York hospital, lying in bed as a nurse drew vials of blood from his arm.

In follow-up posts, the “Nite and Day” artist’s team announced that he was having surgery, with no additional details provided. However, in another post, Al B. was captured lying in a hospital bed with multiple tubes inserted into his body with two medical staffers in the room.

On Thursday, Al B. provided an update after his surgery while referencing Drake’s 2013 single “Started From the Bottom.” “Grand Rising #AlBeez 🐝 around the 🌎 We Started in #MtVernon Nah We Hea… The #OG Ambassador of the #MountVernonWolves made it through. 💯 Lives #LetsGetBacktoIT,” he captioned the photo.
