Fans of Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles will see a different side of the gymnast in her brand new Snap Original reality television series, Daring Simone Biles. The show’s 10-episode debut is expected in the third quarter of 2022.
The show’s premise is Biles trying new skills, like DJing and beekeeping.
The producers slated for Biles’ new show are Propagate Content’s Big Breakfast and Kids at Play.
While this is the gymnast’s first series on Snapchat, it’s not her first series. She had a docuseries in 2021 on Facebook called Simone vs. Herself that traced her journey to and through the Tokyo Olympics. Biles was also an executive producer for the biopic The Simone Biles Story: Courage to Soar,” which aired on Lifetime in 2018.
Many Snap Originals have faced success like Off Thee Leash with Megan Thee Stallion, reaching more than 16 million viewers, Charli vs. Dixie, which is in the works for a new season after the first season garnered more than 20 million viewers, and The Me and You Show, another show getting a second season, and received over 50 million viewers.
On top of the athlete’s reality series, more new Snap Originals are making their way to the app, like Reclaim(ed), Snap’s first Canadian show that touches on today’s indigenous culture. Another show, Run For Office, is a docuseries that follows eight Generation Z and millennial political candidates all over America.
“The core of our originals slate is to entertain, educate and inform,” Snapchat’s senior manager for original content Anjuli Millan said. “We’re very grateful we’re able to put shows together in an authentic way, with content that resonates with our users.”
Biles won 32 Olympic and World Championship medals during her career.
