Silk Sonic Will Not Be Going For “Album of the Year” Award At The Grammys

In a statement to Rolling Stone, Bruno Mars announced on Thursday that Silk Sonic won’t be submitting their album, “An Evening With Silk Sonic,” to the Grammys for the Album of the Year award.

“We truly put our all on this record, but Silk Sonic would like to gracefully, humbly, and most importantly, sexually, bow out of submitting our album this year,” Mars told the outlet. “We hope we can celebrate with everyone on a great year of music and partake in the party. Thank you for letting Silk Sonic thrive.”

According to Mars, he and Anderson.Paak decided because they felt it wasn’t necessary since they received success with their hit “Leave the Door Open” by winning Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R&B Performance (tied with Jazmine Sullivan’s “Pick Up Your Feelings”), and Best R&B Song.

Mars said the duo felt submitting the album would be “crazy to ask for anything more.”

In August 2022, Atlantic Records sent out a press release announcing the duo’s debut album earned an RIAA platinum certification on top of their four-win sweep at the Grammys. “Leave The Door Open” is also two times RIAA platinum-certified.

During the week of Nov. 27, 2021, “An Evening With Silk Sonic” reached No. 2 on Billboard 200 albums chart. The duo’s ’60s and ’70s style led Bruno and Anderson.Paak to win the Best Duo/Group of the Year award at the 2022 iHeart Radio Music Awards. They achieved Outstanding Album, Outstanding Duo, Group, or Collaboration at the 2022 NAACP Image Awards.

“Leave the Door Open” sat at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for two non-consecutive weeks. The song’s music video won Best R&B Video and Best Editing at the 2021 MTV Music Video Awards.

In an Aug. 19 Instagram post, Mars thanked his fans for Silk Sonic’s success, saying that because of them, the duo went platinum.
