Sheryl Underwood, The Talk, co-host, talked about her controversial chat with co-star, Sharon Osbourne on The Steve Harvey Morning radio show.  According to ETonline.com, the television personalities spoke about racism, and Osbourne defending her friend, Piers Morgan, and his remarks regarding Meghan Markle. The Talk co-hosts also expressed why Morgan’s comments were degrading and belittling. After Morgan stated his controversial comments about Markle, he resigned from Good Morning Britain. 

Underwood felt the need to defend minorities because racism still exists, wanted to be an advocate for people working a 9-5, and society should not be oblivious to the subject. Readers were more receptive to her approach and expressed high levels of gratitude on social media. Underwood mentioned

fans’ reactions to her demeanor on her podcast, The World According to Sheryl, and wanted people to have a forgiving heart.

“I think this is about discipline, restraint, and being a better me. I got calls from all over the world from people that I was wondering, ‘How did you find me? How do you know me?’ I was getting prayers, I was getting love,” said Underwood. “And I want people to know this, I believe that God was telling me, ‘I have a plan for you. I am about to pour down a blessing upon you. I just need to know, are you ready because you will face this again?'”

Underwood explained to Harvey that she did not want the conversation with Osbourne to end this way. However, she knew it was necessary for her to stay calm under pressure, otherwise, she would’ve been “the angry black woman.”

“I thought we were having a conversation like we normally do. But then I got a feeling that ‘wait a minute’ this ain’t what it usually is,” said Underwood.

After the segment, Osbourne delivered an apology on social media and stated vigorously that she is not a racist despite Morgan’s comments.

“I panicked, felt blinded, got defensive & allowed my fear & horror of being accused of being racist to take over,” said Osbourne. “Please hear me when I say I do not condone racism, misogyny, or bullying.”

Actress, Holly Robinson Peete, a former co-host of the show also mentioned Osbourne’s derogatory marks while she was on the show. Peete claimed that Osbourne said she was, “too ghetto and was mortified watching the disrespectful condescending tone she took with her co-host.” Peete stated that she needed to be respectful in order to complete the first season, however, Osbourne said Peete’s comments are false.

After the conversation, the Emmy-award-winning talk show is now on hiatus so CBS can have an “internal review,” about the situation. Upcoming shows have been canceled behind the situation but the network is expected to air the show on Wednesday, March 17th, 2020.
