On July 20, track star Sha’Carri Richardson was featured on a Beats by Dre commercial that aired during the NBA finals.
The clip begins with an angle of the Nike athlete on the starting blocks.
Then it cuts to a scene of her warming up, and she’s she puts her hands together and looks upward in what seems like a prayer.
Meanwhile, lyrics from “No Child Left Behind,” a track on Kanye West’s upcoming album, “DONDA,” while repeating the phrase, “He’s done miracles on me,” plays.
Finally, the video cuts back to the beginning, showing Richardson as she bursts off the starting blocks into a run.
The inspiring clip ended with a message encouraging the world to “Live Your Truth.”
In the commercial, Richardson is seen wearing the newly released Beats Studio Buds.
In a press release obtained by Essence, Beats stated, “Undoubtedly, Sha’Carri Richardson ignited weeks of divisive conversation and in-depth discussions around the expectations and often dehumanization of athletes.”
“Now she’s back to show everyone what they’re missing in a new Beats spot scored and edited by Kanye West. Wearing the recently launched Beats Studio Buds, “America’s fastest woman” runs 100m to “No Child Left Behind,” a brand-new track by Kanye West from his forthcoming album DONDA. Ultimately, one thing remains clear — whether she’s breaking records or the traditional athlete mold, Sha’Carri’s journey in the global spotlight is only just beginning.”
As previously reported by Sister2Sister, Richardson broke the internet when she won the 100m at the Olympic trials in June but was disqualified after she tested positive for marijuana.
Fans and celebrities all over have stood behind Richardson during what must be one of the most challenging times of her life in support of her.
