World-renown tennis icon Serena Williams recently slayed the Vogue World Fashion Show runway at New York Fashion Week (NYFW).
According to Vogue, Serena strutted her stuff at the Vogue World anniversary showcase in NYC on Sept. 12. She wore a custom Balenciaga tank dress with a cape in a silver laminated jersey at the NYFW event. As she walked, a recording of her voice from the legendary NBC interview conducted during her 2000 Wimbledon match played in the background. “I want people to remember me as the girl who changed tennis or just was able to bring something new to the game,” the 23-time Grand Slam champion was heard saying in the recording.
We all want to be like @serenawilliams. Following a surprise appearance from the @nyrr, our September cover star opened #VogueWorld's runway with an emotional walk down the catwalk, accompanied by the sound of her own voice from 1992. Serena made an epic exit from the tennis world at the 2022 U.S. Open on Sept. 2. The iconic farewell took place in front of an emotional star-studded crowd at the Arthur Ashe stadium in Flushing, Queens. She previously announced her retirement from tennis in August via a personal essay published in Vogue Magazine.
“I have never liked the word retirement. It doesn’t feel like a modern word to me. I’ve been thinking of this as a transition… It’s the hardest thing that I could ever imagine,” she said in her essay.
Despite walking away from her nearly-30-year groundbreaking career, she’s still been busy in the spotlight. She recently made an appearance on The Jimmy Fallon Tonight Show to promote her new children’s book titled “The Adventures Of Qai Qai.” The book is based on the fictional life of her daughter Olympia Ohanian’s adorable baby doll, Qai Qai.
