ABC and Abbott Elementary have partnered with Scholastic Books’ publishing company to provide book fairs at seven underfunded elementary schools. The schools will have free book fairs between March 14 and 18.

Seven schools throughout the country were chosen, including Philadelphia’s Mastery Harrity Elementary School in Philadelphia, Pa., Freeman Elementary in Flint, Mich., Florence Griffith Joyner Elementary in Los Angeles, Calif., Cortada Elementary, also in Los Angeles, Bond Elementary in Chicago, Diehl Elementary in Erie, Pa. and Dayton’s Bluff Elementary in Minneapolis.

Each student at the Title 1 underfunded schools will be gifted two complimentary books at the book fairs, and each teacher will receive 10 books. ABC shared the news on social media.

The senior vice president of creative development at Scholastic, Billy DiMichele, said Scholastic was proud to partner with Abbott Elementary to help educators.

“Our mission at Scholastic has always been to support teachers and provide them with the resources and materials needed to build warm, positive classroom experiences for their students. That’s why we are so thrilled to team up with ABC and ‘Abbott Elementary’ — a show dedicated to uplifting educators and reflecting their experiences — to put books into the classrooms that need them most and get kids excited about reading and learning.”

The network also has an initiative with Scholastic Books that gives educators breakfast, classroom supplies and books. The Traveling Teacher’s Lounge initiative began on January 3 and donated more than 1,000 books, 100,000 writing utensils, 10,000 notebooks to schools in Philadelphia, Maryland, New York and New Jersey and Maryland. They also provided 15,000 art and crafts supplies.

The Traveling Teacher’s Lounge initiative will also stop in Dallas, Texas on March 10 and Houston on March 11. They will stop in Santa Fe, N.M. on March 15 and Phoenix, Az. the following day. On March 18, the group will stop in Reno, Nev., and finish in Los Angeles on March 22.

Abbott Elementary premiered on ABC in December of 2021 and will return airs on Tuesdays on ABC.
