Prince Harry’s potential return to the royal family has been a topic of speculation and debate ever since he and Meghan Markle stepped away from their royal duties.
While tensions and feuds continue to linger within the Firm, royal expert Jennie Bond believes that Harry could eventually be welcomed back.
“I think that Harry, without Meghan, would be forgiven and welcomed back into the royal fold in the fullness of time,” Bond told OK! magazine.
Bond’s comments echo those of Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, who also suggested that the British people would greet the Spare author with open arms.
However, Bond acknowledges that Harry’s return is “still unlikely at the moment.” She notes that although there is goodwill towards the old Harry that everyone remembers, the possibility of a royal homecoming is not on the horizon. Burrell similarly expresses love for Harry but admits to not understanding why he is making certain choices at the moment.
“I think there is still enough goodwill towards Harry, well, to the old Harry that we all remember,” she said. “He could recoup the ground he’s lost and in time and be welcomed back. But I don’t think it’s anywhere on the horizon.”
“I have no doubt that when this happens, because we all know that it will happen, when it does happen then he will return to the United Kingdom and I think his father, the King, and his brother, the Prince of Wales will both greet him back into the country with open arms,” she continued.
Another former royal butler, Grant Harrold, who served King Charles from 2004 to 2011, adds that a potential move to the UK for Harry is “very possible.”
“I’d never say never, it’s always possible that one day he might want to come home, it’s possible that he might buy [a property] here if he wanted to come over [more] and Meghan didn’t want to come over,” Harrold said.
Harrold suggests that Harry might want to come back home in the future, especially if Meghan doesn’t share the same desire. He highlights Meghan’s lack of family in the UK and Harry’s inclination to set up his home in the United States as factors that could potentially drive a return.

The Sussexes made headlines when they decided to step back from royal life in 2020 and relocated to California. Since then, they have made limited visits to the UK. However, the prospect of a royal reunion seems unlikely, particularly as Harry is currently embroiled in a legal battle against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN). Harry is suing the corporation, alleging unethical methods and privacy violations in obtaining information about him. The legal battle adds another layer of complexity to the potential reconciliation.
As Harry continues to navigate his life outside the royal family, the possibility of a return remains uncertain. Only time will tell if Prince Harry’s journey will lead him back to his home soil and a renewed connection with his royal roots.
