Rotimi Claims ‘House Party’ Reboot Will Be Better Than Space Jam

Rotimi, known for his role in Power, has promised that the House Party reboot produced by LeBron James’ SpringHill Productions will be much better than Space Jam: A New Legacy was.

In an exclusive interview with TMZ, the singer-actor said that the new House Party is going to be a fresh take on the iconic film with a similar storyline. However, the actors who are playing “Kid” and “Play” are not the children of the original characters as many reboots have done.

When asked about the mixed reviews that the Space Jam reboot received and that people were nervous to hear that James was responsible for House Party, Rotimi answered in a very measured way.

“Well, I think the production has been great….it’s filled with a lot of hungry young new rising star actors, so everybody’s trying to prove themselves,” the butterscotch prince said from his car.

Jacob Latimore and Tosin Cole are playing the roles of “Kid” and “Play.” Latimore first debuted in the horror film Sleight

and then appeared in The Chi. Cole is a British actor who starred in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.

Rotimi also revealed that the actors challenged each other to bring their A-game because the original film is such a big part of the culture.

“It’s going to be very very special,” he said.

While it is true that the modern-day Space Jam was a ratings flop, failing to reach the 50th percentile on any of the major review sites, the movie still grossed over $150 million and garnered a lot of support from non-professional movie critics. That’s not bad for a non-actor trying

their hand at acting.

Further, reboots have a hard time capturing the magic that made the original reboot-worthy.

Although there is still no expected release date, Rotimi said that he has finished shooting his scenes for House Party so hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long to judge…experience…this new creative vision on a classic.
