Rose McGowan has set her sights on Oprah Winfrey. In a Twitter rant, the 1990s actress accused the media maven of being fake due to her associations with Harvey Weinstein and others accused of sexual misconduct.
The drama began days after a 2003 interview between Winfrey and Dolly Parton resurfaced. Winfrey’s questioning of Parton struck some people in 2021 as troubling.

McGowan took the opportunity to run with it.
I am glad more are seeing the ugly truth of @Oprah. I wish she were real, but she isn’t. From being pals with Weinstein to abandoning & destroying Russell Simmon’s victims, she is about supporting a sick power structure for personal gain, she is as fake as they come. #lizard pic.twitter.com/RCuXNpWCU0

“From being pals with Weinstein to abandoning & destroying Russell Simmon’s victims, she is about supporting a sick power structure for personal gain, she is as fake as they come,” McGowan wrote. She ended the tweet with “#lizard.”
McGowan is referring to Winfrey’s brief involvement with a 2020 documentary that was supposed to highlight Russell Simmons’ in a number of sexual misconduct allegations against him. Winfrey eventually pulled out.
“I want it to be known that I unequivocally believe and support the women. Their stories deserve to be told and heard. In my opinion, there is more work to be done on the film to illuminate the full scope of what the victims endured, and it has become clear that the filmmakers and I are not aligned in that creative vision,” Winfrey said at the time.
McGowan seemed to be full of herself because when a Twitter follower suggested she get off her soapbox about Oprah, she responded by telling the follower to shut up and that she “drops bombs.”

There’s just one problem.
Being friends with someone does not inherently make Winfrey complicit in Weinstein’s behavior. The photo that McGowan posted to somehow “expose” Winfrey was taken before most people knew about his behavior.
One Twitter user responded to McGowan’s post in kind.
Wow, this you? Things aren’t always as they seem. Even when we are harmed doesn’t mean we have to lash out at others or try to tarnish their reputations! pic.twitter.com/JkqBxdecuj

Earlier this month, McGowan also targeted Alyssa Milano (again) and Tina Chen for their alleged “fake” activism for victims of sexual assault and misconduct. This is at least the second time she had come for Milano in the last year.

McGowan must have forgotten that as much as she is a sexual assault survivor, Winfrey is as well.
Winfrey’s team has not responded to any of McGowan’s claims.
