New parents Rihanna and A$AP Rocky are not planning on raising their newborn son in America, the Mirror reported.
A source close to the singer told the publication that the “Umbrella’ singer enjoyed growing up in Barbados and wants her child to experience the life she had before becoming famous. And although the new father grew up in Harlem, New York, he is familiar with the Caribbean nation since he has Bajan roots.
“She wants to give her baby the same experience she had — away from the world of show business,” the source said.
The source also added that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky already have family in Barbados and are planning to make the move in a few months. Furthermore, the couple have already decided which school their son would attend when he’s old enough to go. They will reportedly remain in Los Angeles for at least three months.
Rihanna grew up in Barbados’ capital Bridgetown and already owns a $17 million home she bought there in 2013, which has a private chef and chauffeur.
The country holds a special place in Rihanna’s heart not only because it’s her native home but because the island held a ceremony where the newly elected president Dame Sandra Mason gave her the National Hero of Barbados title.
“On behalf of a grateful nation, but an even prouder people, we, therefore, present to you the designation for the national hero of Barbados, Ambassador Robyn Fenty,” the announcer told the crowd while Rihanna and the president shook hands. “May you continue to shine bright like a diamond, a great honor to your nation.”
“I have traveled the world, and received several awards and recognitions, but nothing compares to being recognized in the soil that you grew in,” Rihanna stated at the ceremony.
The Mirror also reported that the “What’s My Name” singer is also planning on marrying her beau in Barbados.
