One thing about landlords is that they don’t play when it comes to their money. And Real Housewives of Atlanta alum NeNe Leakes is finding that out.
The landlord of the reality star’s Swagg Boutique shop filed a lawsuit against her on Tuesday in Fulton County, GA, due to back rent, precisely $22,900, TMZ reported.
NeNe signed the lease to the shop located at Sugarloaf Mills in 2017 and extended it for another year in 2021. Although she deserted the premises when the lease ended at the beginning of 2021, the landlord claimed she failed to liquidate the remaining balance.
Prior to taking legal action, the landlord attempted to confront her about the $22,900 by writing a letter.
According to Radar Online, the letter read, “Based on the foregoing, Landlord hereby demands payment in the amount of $22,900.75 within ten (10) days from receipt of this letter. Should you fail to pay this amount within ten (10) days from receipt of this letter, Landlord will pursue all rights and remedies it has, including, but not limited to, the collection of past due rent, its reasonable attorney’s fees, and court costs pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 13-1-11, and the terms and conditions of the Lease.”
But when she still hadn’t shown a penny, the landlord had no choice but to bring her to court.
The landlord is suing for damages to cover the attorney fees and the unpaid rent.
While Swagg Boutique’s Instagram page is still up, the website has shut down because the store closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sis2Sis reported in 2022 when a photography company, Photography by Ace, sued NeNe for refusing to pay for their work at her lounge, The Linnethia Lounge.
