Veteran Bronx rapper Remy Ma recently announced the first-ever female battle rap tournament with a $25,000 prize.
Remy Ma announced the tournament via her Instagram page on Oct. 10.
“All-female, first-ever in battle rap history. All b***hes can rap. It’ll be three rounds. Every round is 90 seconds. So that’s a minute and a half with a max of two minutes,” she said in a promotional video clip.
“$25,000 prize is up for grabs!! I’m back on my Battle Rap sh*t!” the post’s caption indicated. “@ChromeTwenty3 is having the first-ever ALL-FEMALE BATTLE RAP TOURNAMENT! She also listed The Tournament‘s participants’ IG handles and ensured fans that they would enjoy the battle.
“FOLLOW THEM! If u love real female rappers, u will not be disappointed [crossed fingers emoji]. #Reminisce #RemyMa #TheresnoPlaceLikeChrome #FemaleBattleRap,” Remy said.
As mentioned in her recent IG post, the event will take place at Chrome 23, an all-female rap battle league founded by Remy, and live-streamed on its website. The venue aims to “[support] women to push the culture forward equally!” its social media page says.
The Tournament will reportedly be Remy’s second battle rap event following Chrome 23’s first one, Queens Get the Money, in February. Queens Get the Money was co-hosted by Remy’s husband, veteran Brooklyn rapper Papoose and veteran Bronx rapper Fat Joe.
The 42-year-old recently made an appearance at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards alongside Joe. The two performed the classic NYC hit “Ante Up” remix (2000) for the award show’s “Loud” segment that celebrated veteran rappers of the ’90s and ’00s.
Remy has also been promoting the VH1 docuseries, True Crime Story as she narrates the show’s second season.
