Reginae Carter Pays Homage to ‘School Daze’ And HBCUs In Grind Pretty Campaign

Reginae Carter paid homage to School Daze and the HBCU experience in her latest campaign for the Grind Pretty platform.

Grind Pretty is a platform that is geared towards female entrepreneurs in the beauty and lifestyle industry. The company has recently announced a partnership between itself and Reginae.

The focus of the campaign was to celebrate HBCUs and highlight up-and-coming entrepreneurs from those colleges. Reginae, who formerly attended

Clark Atlanta University, was the perfect person for this project.

She modeled in outfits that many will remember from director Spike Lee’s iconic 1988 college film School Daze in the campaign.

For example, she posed in a replica of the silver dresses  and opera-length gloves that Tisha Campbell and Jasmine Guy’s characters wore during the talent show while they sang, “Be Alone Tonight.”

Reginae also rocked the Gamma Rays’ jerseys in the epic musical sparring match between the “Wannabees” and “Jigaboos.”

The HBCU campaign includes a beauty box with products from companies headed by HBCU attendees and alumni.

“I’m really excited to partner with Grind Pretty. It’s really cool to support HBCUs and women entrepreneurs!” said Reginae.

HBCUs are known for having an increased emphasis on leadership skills and trying to confront many of the problems that beset Black entrepreneurs.

However, despite the hurdles that are placed in front of Black businesses owners, there are HBCU graduates who are using their knowledge to help other Black-owned businesses succeed.

The owner of Grind Pretty is an alum of Clark Atlanta University.

“This collab is really special to me. School Daze

is one of my favorite movies and I wanted to pay homage to Oscar award-winning costume designer Ruth Carter who originally styled the movie! My HBCU experience was also an important factor in my life and I wanted to shed a light on the greatness they produce,” she said.

The HBCU box can be purchased from the website for $29.99.
