R&B singer Sam Salter has died at the age of 46. Salter passed away on Aug. 28. No cause of death has been released.
Salter’s rich, sultry voice was first heard by the masses on his debut album produced by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and La Face Records, “It’s On Tonight” in 1997.
The singer got his start singing the gospel at the Faithful Church of God in Christ growing up in Los Angeles, California.
The “Color Of Love” singer was discovered by executives from LaFace and was signed by L.A. Reid and Edmonds before being partnered with Christopher “Tricky” Stewart for “It’s On Tonight” when he was just 22-years-old.

Sad to learn of the passing of one of the underrated musicians, Sam Salter at age 46. This album was amazing and this particular track is one of my personal favorites and reminds of the days of the Tbose By Starlight on Metro Fm with @tboseZA . Rest In Peace Sam Salter 💔🙏 pic.twitter.com/0mkg3vPaiD

Man….just learned about the passing of Sam Salter. Few people had a bigger fingerprint on our first 98 Degree record than this man. Sick ear and even sicker voice! So appreciative of him and his contribution to our lives. He left a lasting impact on many. My brother, #RIP

After signing with LaFace Records, Salter had hits with “After 12, Before 6” and “There You Are.” The label never released his second album, “Little Black Book” but Salter kept making music. The multi-talented singer also wrote songs for Charlie Wilson, B2K, Destiny’s Child, 98 Degrees, Kandi Burress, El DeBarge and Tyrese Gibson. Salter released the single “To Be Loved” in 2011 and also shared his gift by teaching others as a vocal coach and working as a music producer.
Our condolences go out to his family.
