R&B Singer Anita Baker Reveals “The Songstress” Tour Dates

Critically acclaimed singer Anita Baker dropped the dates for her forthcoming The Songstress tour, the singer’s first traveling show since 1995.

Produced by Live Nation, Baker’s first stop will be at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, FL, on Feb. 11, 2023. Other cities in the tour are Atlanta, New Orleans, Newark, Long Island, Baltimore, Chicago, Clarkston, Greensboro, Memphis, Atlantic City, Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Oakland—the last destination.

While Baker hasn’t had a tour in quite some time, she has been performing at many shows over the years. She did her Las Vegas residency and recently performed a sold-out show in her hometown.

Baker announced her tour on Twitter, writing, “Building A NEW experience for You & Me 2023. Valentine’s Day/wknd (weekend), Presidents day wknd, Mardi Gras, Mother’s Day wknd, Easter wknd.”

Named after her 1983 debut album, “The Songstress,” Baker’s new tour commemorates the 40 years she has excelled in the music industry since her first album.

The R&B singer was born in Toledo, Ohio, on Jan. 26, 1958, but she grew up in Detroit, where she discovered her love for singing when she sang in church choirs.

After quitting community college, the songstress began performing in nightclubs with local bands before joining the funk group Chapter 8, where she toured and recorded the hit single “I Just Want to Be Your Girl.”

The band received a record deal but was dropped, forcing Baker to stop performing. She eventually embraced a solo career, signing with Beverly Glen Records, where she released her debut record, selling over 300,000 copies. Baker released her sophomore album, “Rapture,” in 1986, gaining two Grammys and selling over five million copies.

With eight Grammy Awards, five platinum albums, and a gold album, this tour is sure to celebrate the success Baker faced throughout her career. The tour’s announcement came a year after the singer successfully gained back her rights to her masters.

Tour dates and tickets can be found on Live Nation.
