St. Petersburg rapper Rod Wave has been arrested and faces a battery charge by strangulation.
The 23-year-old rapper, whose real name is Rodarius Marcell Green, was pulled over during a traffic stop in St. Petersburg on Sunday night (May 1). According to Rap-Up, he was in the passenger seat of his 2021 Grey Dodge Durango before being arrested shortly after midnight.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said he was taken into custody on Monday morning (May 2) on a warrant out of Osceola County.
Green appeared to document being pulled over with police lights flashing behind him in an Instagram story.

There are few details on the December 2021 warrant that cited battery by strangulation. However, according to Complex, it is a third-degree felony carrying a maximum sentence of five years behind bars, five years of probation, and a $5,000 fine in Florida.

The arrest comes only a few weeks after he hosted an Easter giveaway for the children in his community, giving out bikes, food, and Easter baskets.
According to the Weekly Challenger, Wave’s grandmother Deloris Green-Foster said her grandson wanted to give back to the community that supported him for so many years.
“He just wants to say thank you to the community that supports him,” she said. “I am so proud of him. His dad gave him his first microphone, and that was it.”
On April 9, the 22-year-old gave away $25,000 worth of gas at the Sunoco gas station in the Skyway Marina District. Hundreds of people showed, waiting hours for up to $50 worth of gas.
He has not announced a release date for the project, but it’s unclear if his arrest will cause any delays.
Wave recently confirmed that he’s wrapped up the work on his new album, Beautiful Mind, which will be released on June 3. It is unclear if the arrest will cause a delay.
