Abbott Elementary creator and star Quinta Brunson sat down with Oprah Winfrey and opened up about her husband, expressing her gratitude that he doesn’t “dim” her brightness.
“To be 100% fully me requires a lot of stuff that a lot of men do not have time for, they have thought they did in the past, but then realize there’s no dimming me,” Brunson explained.
Winfrey approved Brunson’s word choice saying, “yeah…well, that’s the word. No dimming.”
The Abbott Elementary star then explained how her husband, Kevin Anik, allows the actress to shine.
“My husband is… that’s what I mean by him being the biggest support, that there is no need to dim me at all and that allows me to love him fully and be the person that I want to be,” she said.
Brunson continued, “I think I’ve talked to that about people before and I think a lot of people their minds automatically go to the most negative things like ‘Oh so you can cheat,’ and it’s like no, no one’s even thinking…no one’s thinking about that. I want to be able to be myself, which you would be surprised is a problem for a lot of people.”
Brunson added that the last place anyone should “dim” their light is in the comfort of their home, calling her home her “sanctuary.”
“I won’t have it, I’d just be single. So, I’m fortunate to find a partner who I still feel I can be myself with.”
Anik and Brunson got engaged in 2020, which Brunson announced by posting a photo of her donning a diamond ring on Instagram.

“More good news,” she said in the caption.
After winning an Emmy for Writing for a Comedy Series for Abbott Elementary, she thanked her husband during her acceptance speech.
“In case I am not back up here again, I have to thank my mom, dad, brothers and sisters, my cousins…my wonderful husband because he’s the most supportive man I’ve ever known, and my incredible cast and show for helping me to make this show and make the pilot.”
