R. Kelly has not paid his court fines, so New York Federal Prosecutors want to seize his $28,000 inmate funds.
Kelly is serving his sentence at Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn but, to this day, has not paid any of the fines or fees.
On Thursday, Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel G. Saavedra wrote a five-page letter stating “that the defendant had accumulated substantial funds in his inmate trust account.”
According to the letter, on Wednesday, the account had a balance of $28,328.24.
And since Kelly has yet to pay his $140,000 balance, New York federal prosecutors asked the judge to order the Bureau of Prisons to seize the money from his commissary account.

Prosecutors say The Bureau of Prisons has seized the funds. The letter states, “Further, the BOP has confirmed that it left $500 in the Defendant’s trust account for Defendant’s use in MCC Chicago. Accordingly, as of this writing, the BOP has restrained a total $27,828.24.”
“The Government now seeks entry of an order authorizing the BOP to turn over the restrained funds for application to the Defendant’s outstanding criminal penalties,” the letter continues.
Kelly has a restitution hearing next month where Judge Ann Donnelly will decide how much he will have to pay to his victims.
Kelly also faces a trial in Chicago this month on charges of child pornography.
As Sis2Sis reported, R.Kelly was previously convicted of ten charges last September, including racketeering and sex trafficking. The testimony at the trial revealed that he is an abusive pedophile and has been for over 20 years.
In June, New York U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly sentenced the disgraced R&B singer to 30 years in prison and ordered him to pay a $100,000 fine, a $900 special assessment, and $40,000 under the Justice for Trafficking Victims Act.
